As a child, Cuban designer René Barba already had a habit of taking apart his toys to make new objects. At the age of ten, he knew he wanted to become a designer. He spent his childhood in sunny Florida, then headed for Paris in 1990 to study at the École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs. Today, he still lives and works in France. René Barba's personality clearly permeates his designs. Reserved, but with a southern temperament, he favours warm tones, a relaxed atmosphere and perfect harmony. Inspired by materials, the designer looks for new functions for existing objects. In this context, he favours combinations of two or three materials in order to achieve an ideal balance between hardness and softness, comfort and functionality.
