Socks - Sainte-Victoire
The Montagne Sainte-Victoire is a mountain in southern France, overlooking Aix-en-Provence and subject to many of Cézanne's paintings - even having its own dedicated series. Here, Cézanneuses geometry to describe nature through many diagonals that diverge from one to the other, and different colors to represent depth in objects creating a panoramic view of the mountain of tranquil beauty and overall delicacy.
Having outgrown his own technique representing still life, he developed a new rough and daring approach to modern art becoming one of the best landscape artists of the late 19th century, influencing names like Pissarro, Braques and abstract art.
